Outreach for SW/TS

  • WAKE staff conduct regular visits to areas where women work as sex workers.
  • During these visits, the sex workers receive counseling with regards to their health including issues on HIV/AIDS as well as to guide them towards rehabilitation.
  • The outreach programme is to inform and educate women and transsexuals about HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections and other diseases and to educate female drug users on harm reduction.
  • Outreach activities are operated out from WAKE Outreach Centre (WOC) in Klang and is carried out in Klang City and Port Klang.







Wife of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor paid an official visit to Rumah WAKE 1 on May 12, 2011.

During her visit, toured the home and distributed goodie bags to the children. The children gave a performed to welcome her.

A function to remember the Founder of WAKE, Ms. Catherine I.J. Arumanayagam, who passed away on July 17, 2006, was held at Rumah WAKE 1. Residents from the other two shelters i.e. Rumah WAKE 2 and 3 also participated in the function which was followed with refreshments.

As part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Cadet Officers from Akademi Bomba dan Penyelamat, Kuala Kubu Bharu Visited Rumah WAKE 1 and interacted with the children. Among the activities was giving the home a newcoat of paint.




As  part of the HIV/AIDS Prevention programme, Health Camps are organized with the co-operation of Jabatan Kesihatan Daerah Klang and the Malaysian AIDS Council at WAKE Outreach Centre, Klang.  During the health camp, rapid test (VCT) is conducted  by staff of Jabatan Kesihatan Daerah Klang to detect if any of the sex workers are infected with HIV.

Caltex Malaysia organized an outing for children from shelters to Taman Pertanian Malaysia, Shah Alam. Children from WAKE 1 were among the children invited. The children had an enjoyable time, some trying out the Skytrack.

In conjunction with the World AIDS Day 2011 celebrations on December 1, 2011, the US Ambassador to Malaysia, His Excellency Mr. Paul W. Jones visited WAKE Office at the 7th Floor, Wisma Kraftangan, No. 9, Jalan Tun Perak, Kuala Lumpur. The US Ambassador was received on arrival by WAKE officials. The Ambassador was introduced to WAKE staff. Later the Ambassador was briefed by En. Muhammad Daruz, WAKE Manager, about WAKE and its projects.
